When toughness in a protective coating is the primary objective, Rilsan® polyamide 11 (nylon 11®), should be your first choice. We have used it in a variety of applications and it far exceeds the strength and ability of fusion bonded epoxies (FBE), or any fluoropolymer for physical toughness properties.
Rilsan® thermoplastic coatings combine thermal stability, physical durability, chemical resistance, and mechanical toughness in a coating that stands up to almost anything, according to the manufacturer Arkema. These 36″ ⌀ pipe spools were coated for our customer to replace failed elastomeric linings that neither could withstand chemical permeation and thermal cycling. They disbonded after an unexpectedly short life in the field at a water treatment facility. The Rilsan® pipe spools we produced will resist erosion, permeation, and thermal damage.
